Shadows and Light

I saw between the turn of a page
Two shapes of fire and burning rage

Not fear nor anger bade them to fight
But simply they strove without respite
To each have to world as the brothers saw right
One dragon the day, the other one, night

From the same mother's egg the dragonlings sprung
When stars were new and world was young

One was gold, the other dark
One was the raven, the other the lark

The darkest one brought only sickness and fright,
The blackness of space
The chill of the night

His golden scaled brother brought forth lwith him light
The warm yellow sun
The ocean's great might

He was the glint of the sunlight on snow
The falling spring rain,
The moonlight's soft glow

The dark one yearned for endless black
The song if he void, it beckoned him back

Sweeter then words and the kiss of a love
The dark one watched from the blackness above

And so the dark dragon became suffering and pain
The screams of his Mother fell stony, in vain

The golden one heard and try as he might
He could not bring his brother back to the light

The dark one perceives and waits for the chance
To return to the world and continue the dance

Locked in a terrible ongoing story
The two dragon brothers fight without glory

One to protect, the other to end
One to unmake, the other to mend
A poem about a bit of personal mythology concerning my dragon Rabelais and his more malevolant brother known as The Unmaker (deviation pending!). Both are as old as the stars, but both have very different ideas about the way that the world should be run...Please be kind!
